An item can be tuned to the level of v8 and basically, the success rate and the cost are as they are shown below. The outcome of the battles can affect those factors.

Warning I:
Item level goes up and functions improve when the tuning is successful but the qualification becomes stricter as well, so there might be a consequence where you cannot use the same item you have just tuned.
Warning II:
If the tuning fails, an item's maximum durability decreases by 33 points. If the maximum durability goes below 10, the item cannot be tuned any more.
Special Tuning
It gives one of the special abilities randomly. You have to have at least one special mineral to proceed. The kind of the mineral determines the outcome of the tuning.
If the special tuning goes well, a special ability will be added to your item(shown in gold letters). The success rate is relatively low(30%)but the qualification stays the same even when the item is upgraded.
You can upgrade items of below level 5 in the upgrade center but you have to consult a merchant ouside the planet to tune an item of more than level 5.

Lithium
Basic mineral enabling special tuning. Easy to find.(Submission clear)
Highly Condensed Lithium
Harder to find than simple lithium but it gives you higher performance to your item through special tuning.
Radon
Hard to find but gives you maximum performance quality to your item when the tuning is successful.
Cesium Series
Different types of cesium give you different effects but mostly this kind of stone guaranties all the expected functions when the tuning goes well.
Tip I:
The number of extra abilities that come with the special tuning does not excel 5 and higher the level of the item is, more options you can get.
Tip II:
Those extra minerals can only be obtained through accomplishing Submissions.
